Personal ideas...

Added to the links section on our site, Ive also made a post to see if some people would be up for forming a team to enter.

I had a couple of thoughts; would the idea of having the tournament "league based" as opposed to being knockout based, be a little too difficult to integrate with all the other ideas you have planned? For example, the scoring would be more like a Football league table. Heres the basic proposal:

1. The tournament doesnt start until a certain amount of teams has signed up (say 8)

2. Each team can have up to 10 players. However each match only 6 can play at one time, but if there are surplus players they can be subbed on and off during the match.

3. The matches take place at a certain time and day each week, in the "best" servers (i.e. the ones that are used for the ladle, if possible)

4. Once the match starts, it will be best of 3.

5. The scoring would work as follows; 3 points for a win, 1 point for the losing team if over half the winners points is gained (as you cannot get draws in fortress), and 0 points if you lose having under half the winners points.

6. The league table would be drawn up using the win/loss points, but as is the case during Football if teams have the same points Goal difference is taken into account. Therefore the score logs are also saved, with the case of 2 teams having the same league points, the winner would be the one with the most actual match points.

7. The tournament would end, like the football league, when everyone has played everyone (if 8 teams enter, it would be 7 weeks). This way, this could be run say, 4 times a year (giving people a month break between the tournaments, perhaps for new signups, etc)

Now, after my rant, does this seem to be feasible with this tournament or would it work best as a new one/develop the ladle ?

Questions/comments welcome

Well it might become a bit too much for my plate, but if you or someone else wants to take a stab at organizing a competition i wouldn't mind helping out with setting something up on this forum. Although it might become a bit too much for players too if there is a ladle, kings of the grid and a competition.

Apart from the scoring it reminds me of The Spoon playoffs, which is somewhat before your time i guess. There was alot of feedback on those playoffs, somewhere on the armagetron forums and on the wiki.

Iirc there were alot of problems with trying to set up matches, getting enough players on time etc.

a league sounds fine to me
though timing is always going to be a problem...

as for clashes with other competitions...
the more the merrier....
it only takes a mo to make sure fixtures don't clash

I suppose the fact that all the things to do with dates/times would be major problem with having things league based, however there could be the possiblity of it being counteracted with each team being able to have 10, but only 6 allowed to play at once; this way a few people could forget and everything still goes ahead.

1. Please make forum easier to navigate lol...i swear i usually get deterred from anything if the forums are hard to read
2. Since wrtl is hosting a server, we should try and get manta to host an american version of the 1v1 server as well

Um.. Could you elaborate on that? Since I've been looking at it for some time I probably miss alot of things that seem logical to me but ar just plain weird to others.

I think that would be a good idea, but I think one of the reasons wrtl was ok with it was because his Sumo Bar wasn't used alot. I'm not sure if Manta would like to run another server or change his sumo server.. I've seen it being used every once in a while.
